'SC's decision to deploy Central Force is a slap on Mamata Banerjee's cheek', said Sukant Majumdar

The Bengal BJP has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to deploy the Central Force in the West Bengal Panchayat elections while upholding the decision of the Calcutta High Court.

State BJP President Sukant Majumdar said that Mamata Banerjee was slapped on the cheek by the decision of the Calcutta High Court and now she has been slapped on the other cheek by the decision of the Supreme Court.

He said that this decision is the victory of the people of the state and while tweeting on his Twitter handle, he has written that Satyamev Jayate. He said that the way violence is happening in the Panchayat elections. The BJP had been demanding the deployment of the central force for a long time.

Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Shubhendu Adhikari tweeted on the Supreme Court's decision, "I am grateful to the Supreme Court and welcome the orders passed today to help restore democracy in West Bengal."

He said that in order to ensure a free, fair and transparent election process, the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India has dismissed the SLP filed by the State and SEC and has upheld all the directions passed by the Calcutta High Court.

Bengal BJP's central co-incharge Amit Malviya tweeted, "Elections cannot be an excuse for violence. The Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petition of the West Bengal Election Commission challenging the Calcutta High Court's order of deployment of central forces.

He said it was a crushing defeat for Mamata Banerjee, who had made the panchayat elections a prestige issue and a launch pad for her 'nephew'. He said that the West Election Commission has already committed contempt by not seeking force within 48 hours of the Calcutta High Court order.

He said that the sharp remarks of the Supreme Court should also be included in this. This gives them little moral authority to conduct free and fair polls. He said that whatever may be the political result, Mamta Banerjee has lost the battle.
